From Fiction To Reality? This is not a video game anymore

http://www.raiweb.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/San-Andreas-Film-Releasing-date-and-Cast17.jpg

It is very impressive to see how much you can do with technology in movies, nowadays. One of the examples that I can mention is the up coming movie “San Andreas”. In my personal case, I have heard about a video game called San Andreas as well. I think that this movie does not have a lot of connection with the video game, even though, that was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the name of it. Is this a game brought to the reality?

How Proud Are You?

http://images.contactmusic.com/images/reviews2/pride-fr.jpg
One of my favorite scenes of the movie Pride is between 1:21:15 and 1:22:20. During this scene, Joe, one of the youngest ones in the crew of LGSM (Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners), is walking back home very happy of the things that he has been doing for such a wonderful organization. While he is walking back to his parents place, there is soundtrack played in the background that in a way helps reflect the emotions of the moment and gives us an idea of what is about to happen. He seems to be very proud of himself for what he has done so far, so he walks with a smile on his face. It is very early in the morning, and his parents didn’t know that he had spent the night out. So, he opens the door very carefully so that he would not be noticed. He steps into the house and looks around, realizing that his parents are awake in the living room.
When he enters the room, he sees his mother crying and his father with a serious face. Then, his smile is no longer on his face, but this one turns into a concerned reaction. The soundtrack is still playing, but this time it is a little more noticeable. His father stands up and, now Joe seems more worried and clueless of what is going on. He then, he looks around and sees that all of his private stuff is sitting on a small table in the middle of the room. The angle of the camera, then focuses on pictures of him and other members of the LGSM; newspapers where they appear on the front page, with all of the positive things that they have achieved, etc.

I think that this is a very potential scene because one the main characters, Joe, in this case, realizes that his secret is no longer a secret, that his parents know all about it and they might want to hear an explanation for that. He is a fundamental part of the LGSM organization and he is proud of the things that he has done for the community, specially for the miners. However, his parents would not understand it that easily. He is in trouble, now and he needs to find a solution for this.

Becoming A New Oscar

My favorite scene of the movie Fruitvale Station is between the minutes 21:15 and 27:15. During this scene, Oscar, a 22-year-old ex-convicted African American boy drives up to the bay. While he is still inside the car, he stares at a picture of his little daughter and him. He seems to be pensive, and then he gets out of the car and walks toward the ocean. He squats on top of a rock and he goes back in time, thinking about that time when he was in prison.

He thinks about that particular time, during New Year’s Eve, when his mother visited him. He was very excited to see his mom and so was she. However, when his mom asked him about what had happened to his face. Apparently, he had gotten in trouble, but he was avoiding the question. During the conversation, they talked about his daughter and how fast she growing up and what new things she was learning. He did not like the fact that he was away from her and that he missed her so much. He could not wait to see her after prison. Close to the end of the visit, his mom revealed that she was not going to visit him in prison anymore. Near the end of this scene, he’s back on the rock, and he decides to throw away the marihuana that he had in his pants.

I think that this is a very potential scene because the main character, Oscar, in this case, realizes that he needs to quit the life that he had chosen before. He understands that what he had done had sent him to prison, which did not allow him to spend time with his loved ones. Right there, he decided to make a change in his life for a better future. This scene let us see the old Oscar and the new one.

My Playlist, My Self

"Music can change the world because it can change people" -Bono

Songs have a huge impact in people's lives. No matter the genre, the singer, the lyrics, or anything, music in any sort benefits us. When we hear a song for the first time, we always make an unconscious connection with it, making us remember that particular moment in our lives.
In my personal case, there are five (and many more, for sure) songs that have a very special meaning in my life.
  • 1.     Mi Caballito – Carlos Vives

The first one is important to me because it reminds me of the children parties that we would have in our neighborhood. We would always dance to this song because it was fun and playful. There were certain moves that we would dance to according to the lyrics, involving everyone at the party.
  • 2.     All of me – John Legend

The second song is very important because it was a dedication from my significant other. I first heard it almost a couple of years ago, sitting at the desk in my room. Now, it has become our hymn.
  • 3.     Loca – Shakira

The third one is a good representation of the Colombian talent, as it is known internationally. I heard it at party several years ago.

  • 4.     De que callada manera – La Sonora PonceƱa

The fourth song is important to me because it was the first salsa song that I learned when I was in elementary school, as salsa plays an important role in my culture. We were asked to memorize and sing the lyrics in class.

  • 5.     More than words – Extreme

The last song is significant to me because it was the first English song that I learned when I was in high school. We were doing a fill-in-the-blank activity in class and had to practice some new vocabulary and grammar structures.
