WHY IS HARRY POTTER SO APPEALING TO PEOPLE?

I have not seen the Harry Potter saga. However, I remember
that when I was 11 or 12, was when I heard people talking about it for the
first time. Back in Colombia, international movies get there a little delayed.
I mean, people in other countries, like the U.S. or England, hear about the new
releases before we do in our country.
At first, it seemed very interesting to see kids with powers
and using magic to do things. I remember that they had gone to a school only
for “those kind of kids” with different kinds of abilities. I do not think that
I ever had the chance to finish watching the entire first movie because they
were too long and typically they were shown at night. I think that was one of
the reasons, I was not into movies on regular TV. In my house we did not have
cable, for that reason, there were only two channel options for us, with the
regular antenna. If we watched any TV show, soap opera or movie on any of those
two channels (RCN and Caracol), every break, there would be a 5 or 8 minute
commercial. It is still the same nowadays. It is a good thing that we have
cable now and that if one channel is on commercials, we can switch to another
one of our preference.
I think that I never heard of the Harry Potter books till I was older but because I never got into the movies, I did not want to read the books, either. In fact, the books were translated into Spanish and imported from different countries, which made them very expensive. I think that after watching that portion of the first Harry Potter movie, and the only one that I have seen; I have not felt that me life needs to know about that super fictitious world of things that have never happened and never will. As old as I am right now, I think back and say that I am glad I never had cable till I was older, and I never fell in love with those movies of Harry Potter.
